When there is a real or suspected pollution incident anywhere in Africa, Clinton Consultancy quickly notifies the ship’s P&I Club and gets as much information as possible from the agent, the master, and anyone else who has a stake in the matter.
To protect the rights and interests of the owner/P&I Club, a surveyor is hired to look into what caused the waste and how bad it is, as well as to organize the cleanup. If it’s possible, samples are taken from the oil spill and the ship’s cargo holds. Also, you must get copies of all the important papers about ballasts, upkeep, etc. from the Master.
The Correspondent and the surveyor do everything they can to keep the pollution to a minimum.
The officials will ask for either a cash deposit or security to cover the costs of clean-up, third-party claims, and fines if the owner is found to be responsible.
In the event of a major oil spill, the Captain will be questioned by the police and may have to go to court. In this situation, our lawyers help the Captain and owners fight the sentence or try to lessen it.
Clinton Consultancy then carefully look into where the oil found in the sea came from in order to protect the ships.
