Dealing with Stowaway cases

As soon as Clinton Consultancy gets directions from the ship’s Master, Agents, P&I Club, or Owner, we call the right authorities (harbour, immigration, etc.) depending on which African country the incident takes place and get permission to take the stowaways back to their home country.

Then, our bilingual staff helps the Master with the formalities of disembarking with the officials on board the ship and talks to the stowaway(s) to find out what country they are most likely from. The Club/Owner is given a rough idea of how much the return will cost.

With the police’s help, we take the stowaway(s) to a police holding center, where they are held until further investigations.

Once our staff has taken the stowaway(s) to the appropriate Embassy or Consulate and interviewed them to confirm their nationality(ies), we apply for emergency travel documents and make plans for their return to their home country, such as booking escorts and plane tickets as needed and buying at least some cheap, decent clothing.

Clinton Consultancy representatives then takes the stowaway(s) to the airport, helps them with the boarding process, and makes sure they get on the plane.

If the ship is threatened with a fine for having stowaways on board, Clinton Consultancy’s experienced staff will work with the officials to get the lowest possible settlement and make sure the ship can sail without any problems.
